IP tracking in the fandom

Anonymous SAID:
i feel like there was a time in the fandom when people were like tracking ip addresses or some shit so they always knew who anons were or who was on their blog. does that still go on or does everyone always do that on this website? i also feel like half the anons people get have to be bullshit right? no one actually receives that many questions especially so specifically about every topical issue in the royal world and beyond?
The royal fandom really found ip tracking in 2012 and back then there was a particular group of cambridge blogs that would mention that they knew who was sending shit, but they would never really say on public how they were doing it. It was totally a power thing for that group like indirecting on posts and on twitter.
It became commonplace in 2013/2014 where people started to be open about using it but still some would say they were doing it to check their hits and not bc they were tracking anons. I always used it to track anons and see who was on my blog.
Yes a lot of people still use it but some people never did (if you want me to show you how to find out who uses it i will do a tutorial), but it’s not really a big deal anymore. Even i dont have it installed anymore bc now i dont give a fuck who sends me shit. The fandom is smaller and so less people get hate and IMO the fandom is a lot more clued up to the fact that people self-troll to get attention.
Yes and yes on anon amounts bullshit. The formula is the more anons you get (fake or real), the more questions you’ll attract bc u look like a popular blog. Works best when people wanna say something controversial so rather than write a post they’ll pass it off as someone asking them a question. I dont believe anyone who says they’ve never sent themselves an anon or that they’ve never sent anyone else an anon.

An ask originally posted in 2016 to my blog.
